I've seen the Kashmir and the Extreme Vids and Mike is definitely a rock monster.
I just saw this clip. This particular clip has terrible audio and is not a particularly impressive bit of playing from him. I agree that it's a bad choice for Pearl to put this on their site. It's the end of one of his solo's and is the BIG FINISH, not him attempting to be musical. Don't judge him just on this awful clip. Check him out on something else. You'd be shortchanging him (and yourself).
FYI - Most of the clip has Mike playing a four-way single stroke roll around the kit. That is, RH RF LH LF (or RH LF RF LH - I can't tell which) at a fairly decent speed, while he's moving from drum to drum and cross-sticking. This is pretty challenging to do. I've heard him play this faster and cleaner many other times.

It amuses me when people caviat dreadful playing by saying "he's a really sweet guy." I'm sure he is and would make you endless cups of tea if you met him, but that is no excuse for loud, tasteless, self satisfying, unmusical, and boooring playing. It's the way he holds his stick aloft while doing that one handed roll thing as if to say "check ME out", then that self satitisfyed 'I've just cum' look!! LMAO!!
If I saw this guy in a clinic, I honestly think I'd walk out after 10 minutes.

Not wanting to delve into the comparision thing, but Fuse, I think TL has an edge over VD.
Seeing Steve wank hard last night, I must say I enjoyed his taste better than a lot of what Virg does. VD is more complex and athletic, but his "feel" during metric modulation stuff can still sound very machine-like. Steve did some very nice MM stuff last night that was very musical. When I see VD with CAB, they play a lot of covers and Steve played HIS stuff, which makes it very inside, but on VD's solos, he still sounds like he is in his practice room.
I'm going to see VD's All-Stars next week...I will try to record his solo. Who's got a mini-disc & mic laying around, tucked in a drawer to donate to an LA guy? It will be the offcial HOD recorder. Or whoever donates will get all original copies of gigs.
